WORK/PROJECT: SEEDS volunteers in this project will have the unique opportunity to work at two beautiful locations in Iceland experiencing different tasks and projects.

First week we will work at the new SEEDS volunteers' base located in the outskirts of Reykjavík. We will be assisting and giving contributions to the future development of SEEDS volunteering activities. We will help with taking care of the garden in the volunteers centre, painting the house if needed and if weather allows, planting trees, preparing a vegetable garden and tending the lot.

During the first week we will have flexibility and freedom to plan and make our own schedule with the leader and according to the needs of the house. Furthermore we will have space and time to plan workshops and introduce new skills to the rest of the group. Independency and enthusiasm to work outdoors is an asset.

The second week, we will spend in the amazing area of Laugarvatn, about one hour drive from Reykjavík. The work in Laugarvatn area will mainly consist of picking Icelandic plants, herbs and flowers. The plants are used to make organic creams and skin products. Many of the plants have been used in Iceland for centuries and the volunteers will learn about them, where and when they can be picked, how they work and can be used for health and healing.

The project will offer SEEDS volunteers some free time activities such as hiking, barbeque, sight-seeing or a trip to the thermal pool in Laugarvatn.

This project combines diverse tasks in two very different locations, ensuring diversity and various experiences for participating volunteers.

ACCOMMODATION: SEEDS volunteers will have two different types of accommodation. In the first week, we will stay in SEEDS volunteers centre, a fully equipped house; sleeping in shared rooms.

In Laugarvatn area the volunteers will stay in a fully equipped local house with access to bathroom and kitchen. Please bring your own sleeping bag.

Food ingredients will be provided and a kitchen will be available, volunteers will share the duties of preparing and cooking meals. Please do not forget some typical food for the international evening, where others can try and taste some specialities from your home countries.

LOCATION: Part of the project will take place in the outskirts of Reykjavík, in the hills of Mountain of Wolfs. The location is far enough from the city to be able to enjoy the quality of the country life, pure air, nature and tranquillity, but close enough to be able to visit the capital once or twice during the project. The other part of the project will take place about 70 km from Reykjavík city, in the area of Laugarvatn, a small village with 170 inhabitants standing on the shore of the 2,14 km2 lake with the same name. In the area are many hot springs and it is only in a short distance from the old parliament Þingvellir, the powerful waterfall Gullfoss and the erupting hot pools at Geysir area. The area is known for good weather and quiet lifestyle and Icelanders go there during their summer vacations for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful nature. In the area are many nice hiking trails for beginners and more advanced hikers.

LANGUAGE: English will be the official language in the camp; high proficiency is not a requirement.

TERMINAL: Closest International Airport: Keflavík/Reykjavík (KEF).

SEEDS organises the 'minibus option', a shared transport from Reykjavík to the camps and vice-versa, which apart from being cheaper and more convenient, allows volunteers to meet fellow campers and have a relaxed trip, while stopping on the way for interesting and tourist sites.

EXTRAS: Participation fee EUR 180.

Volunteers applying for this project should have a motivation for working outdoors.

Great combination of two different places & projects in Iceland.
